Siemens Gamesa to supply 70 wind turbines to Norway

-Turbines to be installed on three onshore wind farms come with 25-year full service agreement, company says

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) will supply 70 units of 4.2 megawatt (MW) turbines to three onshore wind farms in Norway, the company announced Thursday.

'The installation of the 76MW Skinansfjellet project, the 63MW Gravdal wind farm and the Eikeland-Steinsland project with over 155 megawatts – a combined rating of 294 MW and collectively known as the Bjerkreim cluster – will start in spring 2019 with completion planned for autumn 2019,' a press release said.

The project sites with 15, 18 and 37 units are located in the Bjerkreim and Ha municipalities, approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles) southeast of Stavanger.

The SWT-DD-130 Onshore OptimaFlex turbines will each feature a 130-meter (426 foot) diameter rotor, and will be installed on steel towers with 125m (410 foot) hub heights.

The turbines will be serviced and maintained over their 25-year lifetime in accordance with a full service agreement with a yield-based availability warranty, the statement said, adding the contracts were signed within the first quarter of 2018.

Siemens Gamesa said the projects were being executed in close collaboration with Hamburg-based Luxcara, the owner and long-term operator of the wind farms; and the Norwegian developer, Norsk Vind Energi.

Luxcara's managing partner, Dr. Alexandra von Bernstorff, said they were happy to be able to rely on Siemens Gamesa for their 'largest wind project so far'.

Ricardo Chocarro, CEO Onshore at SGRE, said their technology was 'well suited for complex wind regimes like Norway,' adding the company's regional team would help meet all demands including challenging logistics and installation environment.

All three project sites are characterized by a complex terrain, according to the statement.

Present in Norway since 2002, the accumulated base installed by Siemens Gamesa accounts for more than 500 MW and over 200 turbines, according to the statement, which said a further 390 MW was under installation.
