Russian state-owned oil company Rosneft plans to invest in Iranian oil resources in the post-sanctions era, Iran's energy information network Shana said Tuesday.
Rosneft's Executive Chairman Igor Sechin met with Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh in Tehran, and talked about investment opportunities in Iran's oil development projects after sanctions on the country are removed. He also expressed Rosneft's readiness to invest in Iran’s oil resources.
Rosneft is planning to invest in Iran's Changuleh oil field located in Iran's western Ilam province near the Iraqi border.
Russian oil firm Zarubej Neft also relayed its interest in the field in October, in addition to its ambition to construct oil refineries and petrochemical plants in the region.
Also, Russian oil company Lukoil said it is willing to return to Iran's Anaran and Azar oil fields, after the firm along with other foreign energy companies were forced to leave when sanctions were imposed on Iran in 2011.
Shana reported that the Russian companies are interested in IOR (improved oil recovery) and EOR (enhanced oil recovery) projects, and development in Iran's oil and natural gas fields.
