MHI Vestas inks 'largest' offshore wind project in UK

- Company signs firm order for 860-megawatt Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind will supply 90 of its flagship V164-9.5 MW turbines for an 860-megawatt project in the U.K., its largest capacity project to date, the company announced Monday.

"MHI Vestas celebrates financial close with [German] innogy at the 860 MW Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm," a press release read.

Located 32 kilometers off the Lincolnshire coast, the farm is capable of supplying the equivalent of over 800,000 U.K. households per year with offshore wind energy, according to the statement.

MHI Vestas is an equally-owned joint venture between Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems A/S and Japanese Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

The Danish-Japanese joint venture has also agreed on a comprehensive service and maintenance agreement for five years.

MHI Vestas also confirmed that it would establish its wind turbine pre-assembly operations at Able U.K.'s Seaton Port in Teesside, ranging from enabling works to loadout.

"MHI Vestas, with ambition to expand its industrial footprint in the U.K., will manage all logistics and pre-assembly activity for the project. Turbine tower sections, blades and nacelles will be stockpiled and pre-assembled at Seaton, before being loaded on to construction vessels for transport and installation at the wind farm," it said.

Based in Aarhus, Denmark, MHI Vestas designs, manufactures, installs and services wind turbines for the offshore wind industry.

Germany's innogy SE is a leading energy company, with a revenue of around €43 billion in 2017, and more than 42,000 employees and activities in 16 countries across Europe. The company has three business segments: renewables, grid and infrastructure, and retail.
