Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. announces gas discovery offshore Abu Dhabi

- Initial results show discovery of between 1.5 and 2 trillion standard cubic feet (TSCF) of raw gas, company says

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced Thursday the discovery of raw gas offshore Abu Dhabi.

According to the interim results, between 1.5 and 2 trillion standard cubic feet of raw gas has been discovered in Abu Dhabi’s offshore block 2 exploration concession that covers an area of 4,033 square kilometers northwest of Abu Dhabi, and which is operated by Eni.

The discovery marks the first from Abu Dhabi’s offshore exploration concessions awarded to a consortium led by Eni and PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) in 2019.

'We congratulate our valued partners, Eni and PTTEP, on this achievement and we look forward to continuing to work with all our strategic partners to sustainably unlock Abu Dhabi’s hydrocarbon resources and stay ahead of the world’s growing demand for lower-carbon energy,' Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the managing director and group CEO of ADNOC, was quoted as saying in the statement.

'Both discoveries leveraged insights from ADNOC’s ongoing 3D mega seismic survey, underpinning the important role the survey is playing for us and our strategic partners as it utilizes state-of-the-art technologies to help identify new hydrocarbon resources across Abu Dhabi,' said Yaser Saeed Almazrouei, ADNOC’s upstream executive director.

The discovery at Block 2 came after an oil find of up to 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent in the onshore Block 4 exploration concession in December 2021.
