Ukraine gas imports from Europe up 50%

- Ukraine continues to exclude gas purchases from Russia in 10 months of 2017 after Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014

Ukraine's natural gas imports increased by around 50 percent to 11.8 billion cubic meters (bcm) so far this year, Ukrainian state-owned energy company Naftogaz said on Friday.

The company said it bought 7.5 bcm of gas in the 10 months of this year, an increase of 29 percent compared to the same period of 2016.

Moreover, the company said that gas was not bought from Russia since 2015 after Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Naftogaz said that it procured imported gas from 13 European suppliers, none of which accounted for more than 30 percent of total gas imports.

However, most of the imported gas came from Slovakia.
