The British High Court froze the dividends of Russian energy giant Gazprom in U.K. that it could receive from the Nord Stream natural gas pipeline project for Gazprom's failure to pay compensation to Ukraine's Naftogaz in a gas dispute, Naftogaz said on Friday.
The dividends worth $145 million must be moved to the court's account "as a guarantee of meeting the requirements of the court", according to the company's statement.
The court, which ruled that Gazprom did not fulfill its obligations with regard to the delivery of natural gas to Ukraine, ordered Gazprom to pay $2.56 billion to Naftogaz.
However, Gazprom failed to follow the court's order, and on June 11 it ruled to freeze the dividends.
Russia and Ukraine have been in dispute over gas issues for many years, and in March 2018, a Stockholm court found in favor of Naftogaz on most major issues in the dispute with Gazprom.
