Turkey's natural gas imports down 10% in December 2019

- Total natural gas consumption in December falls by 6.22% year-over-year

Turkey's natural gas imports decreased by around 10.51% in December 2019 compared to the same month of 2018, according to Turkish energy watchdog's data on Wednesday.

Natural gas imports decreased to 5.42 billion cubic meters (bcm) in December last year, from 6.05 bcm for the same month of 2018, Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.

The country imported 3.66 bcm of natural gas via pipeline, while 1.75 bcm was purchased as LNG in December 2019, EMRA's data showed.

Turkey's total gas consumption decreased by 6.22% to approximately 5.2 bcm in December 2019 from around 5.54 bcm in December 2018.

The amount of natural gas in storage decreased by 2.27% to 3.09 bcm in December last year from 3.17 bcm in December of the previous year.

Gas production decreased by around 5.47% to 37.6 million cubic meters (mcm) from 41.5 mcm over the same period.
