Russia's second-largest oil producer Lukoil launched the Chashkino gas-turbine power plant to generate electricity using associated petroleum gas (APG) produced at the company's fields in the Perm region in Russia.
The 16-megawatt plant will use about 50 million cubic meters of APG per annum produced at the Lukoil fields in the Perm region.
The bulk of the electricity generated will be transferred to the company's operational facilities, but the company said that power supply to outside customers is also part of its plans.
“This will allow us to reduce the amount of energy purchased and thus decrease Lukoil Scope 2 greenhouse gases emissions by 49 thousand tonnes of CO2-e,” Lukoil said in a statement.
A first digital substation had been launched earlier at the plant to transmit electric energy to the grid.
This will enable the provision of up 2% of the total consumption at the Bereznikovsky-Solikamsky power distribution area, the company said.
