The volume of natural gas from Russian gas giant Gazprom destined for Europe via Ukraine decreased 25% on Wednesday, Gazprom’s spokesman Sergey Kupriyanov confirmed.
Kupriyanov’s remarks came one day after Ukraine’s Gas Transmission System Operator said gas transit through the Sokhranivka entry point would be terminated starting Wednesday.
Some 30% of gas deliveries for Europe are routed through Sokhranivka, located in the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine. The point has a natural gas delivery capacity of around 30 million cubic meters per day.
"Gazprom will supply 72 million cubic meters of natural gas via Ukraine on May 11 (Wednesday)," he said, relative to 95.8 million cubic meters on Tuesday.
