The U.S.'s shale gas exports to the U.K. raises the issue of the part the U.S. will play in future contributions to the U.K.'s energy security, Chair of the Organizing Committee for the 23rd World Energy Congress (WEC) said Tuesday.
The U.K.'s first shale gas delivery from the U.S. arrived in Scotland on Tuesday.
Chair of WEC, Hasan Murat Mercan, said the milestone brings to the fore the U.K.'s energy security in the face of dwindling European supplies from the North Sea and the role which shale gas will play within the energy mix.
“The continuing evolution of the gas market is highlighted by news of the first import of shale gas docking in the U.K. today - bound for the Ineos petrochemical plant at Grangemouth,' he said.
He added that the prominence of the U.S. in shale gas development is a key dynamic in this market globally, while questioning the impact that shale exports will have on oil pricing.
The WEC will hold a ‘Global dynamics of natural gas and LNG markets’ session in Istanbul on Oct. 11. Questions on the impact of Australian, American and African supplies on LNG pricing will also be addressed at the conference.
WEC 2016, in which Anadolu Agency will be the Global Communication Partner, will open at Istanbul Congress Valley where it will gather global energy sector players under the theme of 'Embracing New Frontiers.'
Two hundred and fifty speakers from 130 countries, along with over seven thousand delegates will participate in the congress.
Along with Maros Sefcovic, European Commission’s vice-president for the Energy Union and Khalid al-Falih, the minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia, ministers of energy, environment, economy and industry from a vast array of countries including Iran, Iraq, U.A.E., Jordan, Palestine, Germany, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Algeria, Nigeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Argentina, Bolivia and Uruguay, among others, will convene at World Energy Congress 2016 to steer the global energy agenda.
