Qatar Petroleum to hold tender for 100+ new LNG ships

- Tender also holds options for replacement of Qatar's existing LNG fleet

Qatar Petroleum will hold a tender for the construction of LNG carrier ships for its North Field Expansion Project (NFEP), with expected initial delivery of 60 with potential to exceed 100 new LNG carriers over the next decade, the company announced on Monday.

The NFEP will increase Qatar's LNG production capacity from 77 million tons per annum (mtpa) to 110 mtpa starting in 2024, the company said.

The tender also covers shipping requirements for the LNG volumes that will be purchased and off-taken by Ocean LNG, a 70%-30% joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil. Shipments will be made from the Golden Pass LNG export project in the U.S., which is currently under construction and is planned to start by 2024.

The tender also addresses options for the replacement of Qatar's existing LNG fleet.

Qatargas, the world's largest LNG company, will undertake the execution of the ship building program on behalf of Qatar Petroleum.
