Brazil's oil giant Petrobras reports 2% output rise in 4Q23

Ramp-up in production of four platforms responsible for increase, says Petrobras

The average daily oil, natural gas liquids, and natural gas output of Brazil’s state-run oil giant Petrobras rose 2% to 2.94 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) in the fourth quarter of 2023, compared to the third quarter of the same year, the company announced Thursday.

The ramp-up in production from four platforms, namely P-71 in the Itapu field, FPSO Almirante Barroso in the Buzios field, and Anna Nery and Anita Garibaldi floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) in the Marlim and Voador fields, primarily drove the increased output, Petrobras revealed in a statement.

Four new wells from the Campos and Santos basins also boosted production, it added.

Sales in the fourth quarter last year totaled 3.07 million boed, the company said.

Jean-Paul Prates, president of Petrobras, said: “The fourth quarter of 2023 consolidated the good results we achieved throughout the year. 2023 was a year of hard work and many successes and achievements for Petrobras. Records were set in several company areas, from E&P to refining, crowning our team's efforts. We are extremely proud.”

“Petrobras achieved all its production projections in 2023, which had been revised upwards in November 2023,” the statement noted. “Total annual oil and natural gas production, at 2.782 million boed, was 3.7% higher than the production recorded in 2022.”

Last year, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies, known as OPEC+, announced that Brazil, the world's eighth-largest oil producer, would join the group as its 24th member.
