Hydropower produces 96% of Norway's electricity in 2016

- Nordic country generates around 148.9 gigawatt-hours of electricity, from which hydropower produces 143.4 gigawatt-hours

Norway produced 96.3 percent of its electricity from hydropower in 2016, Statistics Norway (SSB) announced on Friday.

The country's production from hydropower increased by 3.6 percent in 2016 compared to the previous year.

The Nordic country produced around 148.9 gigawatt-hours of electricity, out of which hydropower produced 143.4 gigawatt-hours.

The remainder of electricity production was derived from thermal and wind power.

The country also exported 22.1 gigawatt-hours of electricity and consumed 123.4 gigawatt-hours.
