Russia's Gazprom has no plan to build natural gas pipeline to Europe

- There is no plan for a new pipeline "for now", says Gazprom official

Gazprom is not planning to build a new natural gas pipeline to Europe 'for now', Oleg Aksyutin, the deputy chairman of the Russian energy company, announced Tuesday

During a news conference via video, Aksyutin said from Gazprom’s evaluations on its natural gas export pipeline capacity to Europe and China, the company would refrain from building a pipeline to Europe. The company’s annual export capacity to Europe and China has reached the level of 330 billion cubic meters, 60% of which is destined for Europe.

The company is also conducting various studies to reduce carbon emissions by 2050, which will be completed in May next year after which climate targets will be set, Aksyutin explained.

The company's natural gas exports to Europe fell 12.1% year-on-year in 2020 to 174.9 billion cubic meters.
