Oil rig count in US rises by 6 this week

- Number of US oil rigs increase to 770

The number of oil rigs in the U.S. increased by 6 this week, from the previous week, according to data released by oilfield services company Baker Hughes on Friday.

The oil rig count, an indicator of future production, rose to 770 for the week ending August 16, from 764 the week before, the data showed.

Following the data, international benchmark Brent crude closed Friday at $58.64 per barrel.

American benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was up 0.73% on Friday, ending the day at $54.87 a barrel, after closing the previous day at $54.47 per barrel.
