Lithuania stopped imports of Russian oil and electricity from Sunday, May 22, according to the Lithuanian Ministry of Energy on Sunday.
Lithuania was the first European nation to halt all imports of Russian natural gas at the beginning of April.
As of Sunday, the country completely cut all energy imports from Russia, including oil, electricity and natural gas.
'Not only it is an extremely important milestone for Lithuania in its journey towards energy independence, but it is also an expression of our solidarity with Ukraine. We must stop financing Russian war machine,' said Dainius Kreivys, the minister of energy of Lithuania.
He further declared that Lithuania would achieve full energy independence when it successfully implements synchronization, meets its electricity needs through local green energy production and becomes an electricity exporter.
The Klaipeda LNG terminal with cargoes from the US meet the country’s gas needs and local power generation and imports from EU countries through existing interconnections with Sweden, Poland and Latvia cover its electricity needs.
Orlen Lietuva, the only oil importer in Lithuania and oil refinery in the Baltics, refused to import Russian crude oil more than a month ago.
