Equinor’s first solar plant in Poland ready for operation

- Solar plant will produce 61 gigawatt-hours of power per year, equivalent to electricity consumption of 31,000 Polish households

Norway's Equinor completed the construction of the 58-megawatt Stepien solar plant in Poland, the company announced on Tuesday.

Polish solar developer Wento, a 100% subsidiary of Equinor, is the developer and operator of the plant that is now ready for operation.

In 2021, Equinor bought Wento and its pipeline of solar projects across Poland.

Stepien is located in the Braniewo municipality, part of the Warmia region in the north of Poland.

The plant will produce 61 gigawatt-hours of power per year, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 31,000 Polish households.

“Less than 1.5 years after the acquisition, our first solar plant in Poland is ready for operation,” Equinor said.

'With Wento, we are uniquely positioned to build a material solar portfolio in one of Europe’s most rapidly growing renewable energy markets. During the first year of our ownership, we sanctioned the construction of three solar plants in Poland with a total capacity of 171 megawatts. Today, we are proud to inaugurate our first solar plant Stepien, while the two other plants are expected to be ready in 2023-2024,' said Olav Kolbeinstveit, the senior vice president for power and markets within renewables at Equinor.

As one of the largest solar plants in Poland to date, Stepien comprises more than 100,000 solar panels over an area of around 65 hectares.
