China, Gulf nations hold 1st dialogue on peaceful use of nuclear technology

- Officials and experts from China, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates gather in southwestern China

China and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations on Monday held the first forum on the peaceful use of nuclear technology in China’s southwestern city of Chengdu, Xinhua News reported.

The forum, organized by the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA), brought together officials and nuclear experts from China, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and other GCC countries.

The participants explored opportunities, challenges, and collaborative solutions for nuclear energy and technology development, as well as exchanged insights on current needs and future prospects, according to a report by Xinhua News.

In recent years, China has strengthened its collaboration with Gulf Arab states in the areas of nuclear energy and the application of nuclear technology, the news agency said, citing a CAEA statement.

CAEA Director Shan Zhongde said China will actively promote international cooperation in the nuclear sector, sharing technological expertise and resources.

Shan added that China and GCC countries will collaborate in the long term in nuclear energy and technology, with the hopes of sharing opportunities and addressing challenges together.

GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi expressed his hope that GCC countries and China will deepen their collaboration in nuclear technology and enhance exchanges and knowledge-sharing for the benefit of the people.
