Türkiye becomes second-largest market in wind energy installations in Europe in 2025

- Wind continues to serve as strategic lever for energy supply security, industrial transformation, says TWEA head

Türkiye has become Europe's second-largest wind energy market, while its investment climate, industrial capacity, and project development capabilities have reached a competitive level across the continent, the head of the Turkish Wind Energy Association (TWEA) said.

According to WindEurope, a total of 19.1 gigawatts (GW) of new wind power capacity was installed across Europe last year.

With 2.1 GW of additional capacity commissioned in 2025, Türkiye ranked as Europe's second-largest wind market.

"By adding 2.1 gigawatts of wind energy in 2025, Türkiye has once again confirmed that it is not only a strong regional hub but also a powerful investment and production center at the European scale," TWEA President İbrahim Erden said.

Erden noted that wind energy continues to serve as a strategic lever for energy supply security and industrial transformation.

He emphasized that discussions in the sector have shifted from theoretical potential to the pace of actual installations and the effective integration of renewable generation into the electricity system.

Referring to Türkiye's 2035 target of reaching 120 GW of combined wind and solar capacity, Erden said the goal requires consistently high annual net installations.

To sustain momentum in wind energy investments, he stressed the need for simultaneous progress in grid connection capacity, permitting procedures and transmission infrastructure.

"Today, the main constraint facing wind investments is not generation technology, but transmission and connection capacity," he underlined.

He noted that energy storage solutions will play an increasingly critical role in managing fluctuations in electricity generation and enabling the system to adapt to a higher share of renewables.
