SSE, U.K.-based energy, phone and broadband supplier, issued the biggest ever green bond by a U.K. company of €600 million on Wednesday.
The first of its kind bond issued by a U.K. headquartered energy company, supports the development of an active U.K. market in environmentally-friendly capital market products, the company said.
SSE will use the eight-year green bond to refinance its portfolio of recently constructed or under construction onshore wind farms.
'We are being consistent with our commitment to maintaining a strong balance sheet and strong market rating, allowing this funding to be secured at very attractive pricing,' Gregor Alexander, finance director of SSE, said.
