Oil rig count in US falls by 17 this week

- Number of US oil rigs falls to 696

The number of oil rigs in the U.S. decreased by 17 this week, from the previous week, according to data released by oilfield services company Baker Hughes on Friday.

The oil rig count, an indicator of future production, declined to 696 for the week ending October 25, from 713 the week before, the data showed.

Following the data, international benchmark Brent crude closed Friday at $61.98 per barrel.

American benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was down 0.99% on Friday, ending the day at $56.63 a barrel, after closing the previous day at $56.07 per barrel.
