The oil rig count, an indicator of future production, declined to 719 for the week ending September 20, from 733 the week before, the data showed.
Following the data, international benchmark Brent crude closed Friday at $64.58 per barrel.
American benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was down 0.59% on Friday, ending the day at $58.36 a barrel, after closing the previous day at $58.71 per barrel.
