Kazakhstan is building the largest solar power plant of Central Asia near the Akmola region in the country, the Akmola governorship announced Tuesday.
According to the announcement, the 100-megawatt plant will be constructed 30 kilometers from Akmola, a centrally located region of Kazakhstan.
'The cost of the project is about €165 million ($194.92 million),' the statement read.
Kazakhstan’s estimated solar energy potential is 2.5 billion kilowatts a year because of the country's 3,000 hours of sunlight per year.
The global community expects Kazakhstan to implement several sustainable energy projects in the near future. The country is currently hosting the EXPO 2017 exhibition entitled Energy of the Future and the Green Bridge Partnership Program aimed at contributing to sustainable development in Central Asia and other regions of the world.
