Danish Orsted reports 68% increase in EBITDA in 1Q18

- Offshore wind business supports the company in first quarter results

Danish energy group Orsted, formerly Dong Energy, reported earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of 5.5 billion Danish crowns ($899.17 million) in the first quarter of 2018, up 68 percent compared to the same period of 2017, the company said on Thursday.

The world’s largest developer of offshore wind said that profits from operating offshore wind farms increased by 51 percent year-on-year while operating profit in bioenergy and thermal power doubled due to higher heat generation.

'We have had a strong start to the year with good earnings from our offshore wind business, where EBITDA almost doubled compared to the first quarter of 2017,' said CEO Henrik Poulsen.
