Danish Orsted constructs first Dutch offshore wind farm

- Offshore wind farm will be largest in Netherlands capable of supplying renewable power to around 1 million Dutch households

Denmark's Orsted started construction of its first offshore wind farm in the Netherlands by installing the first foundations at the 752-megawatt Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm, a statement from Orsted, formerly known as Dong Energy, said on Monday.

Steven Engels, general manager of Orsted for the Netherlands, said that Borssele 1 & 2, located 22 kilometers off the coast of the Dutch province of Zeeland, will be the company's first offshore wind farm in the Netherlands and marks an important step in the Dutch government's ambitious shift towards green energy.

'Once completed, Borssele 1 & 2 will be the largest offshore wind farm in the Netherlands, able to supply renewable power to around one million Dutch households,' Engels noted.

Henrik Egholm, director of Orsted, said the installation is on schedule for operations start by the end of 2020.
