Nearly 90% of Germans support the growth of the country's renewable energy transition, among which 66% consider clean energy 'exceptionally important', according to a recent survey published on the country's Renewable Energies Agency website.
The survey conducted by British international, internet-based market research and data analytics firm YouGov, and commissioned by the Renewable Energy Agency, surveyed a total of 1000 participants who answered questions and gave their opinions on renewable concepts ranging from 'not important' to 'extremely important'.
The agency's survey shows that the growth of renewable energy continues to be of great importance for the German population.
Clean energy generated more than half of Germany's electricity mix in 2020 and most Germans are in favor of further expansion.
The survey revealed that 86% of Germans support the expansion of overhead power lines, while 59% of participants think that only grid upgrades in Germany are very important, and only 2% consider this unimportant.
Participants were also asked to choose the best source of electricity for the country.
According to the study, German's favorite renewable energy source is solar energy, while offshore wind and onshore wind power take second and third place, respectively.

The International Energy Agency's (IEA) country analysis highlights that the 'Energiewende' - the ongoing transition by Germany to a low carbon, environmentally sound, reliable, and affordable energy supply, continues to be the defining feature of Germany's energy policy landscape.
In its energy transition so far, Germany has maintained a high degree of oil, natural gas and electricity supply security. However, the once highly coal reliant country is now moving away from this source.
'Planned nuclear and coal phase-outs are set to increase the country's reliance on natural gas, making it increasingly important to continue efforts to diversify gas supply options, including through liquefied natural gas imports,' the IEA said.
According to the country's federal network agency data, Germany holds 221.3 gigawatts (GW) of installed power capacity as of April 2020, out of which around 121 GW of power was generated from renewable energy sources.
