US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the development of Pakistan’s critical minerals and energy sectors Thursday with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington, DC.
Rubio thanked Pakistan for its ongoing support of President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for the Gaza Strip and for participating in the board’s inaugural meeting as a founding member.
He also welcomed Pakistan’s participation in the recent critical minerals ministerial in the US capital, the State Department's principal deputy spokesman, Tommy Pigott, said in a statement.
"The officials discussed critical minerals and energy sector development, as well as commercial investment opportunities for American companies," Pigott added.
Separately, Rubio offered his condolences for the "horrific" Jan. 31 attacks by the banned Balochistan Liberation Army in southwestern Balochistan province and the Feb. 6 suicide bombing attack at a Shia mosque in Islamabad, reaffirming the importance of the countries' partnership in the fight against terrorism.
