OPEC raises oil output in May

- OPEC's crude oil share of total global production reached 33.6 percent in May

OPEC's crude oil production increased by 336 thousand barrels per day (b/d) to 32.14 million b/d in May, according to the organization's Tuesday report.

Global oil supply rose by 130 thousand b/d to average 95.74 million b/d in May. Global production stood 1.48 mb/d higher year-on-year.

The share of OPEC crude oil reached 33.6 percent of total global production in May due to the rise in output.

According to the organization, last month crude oil output decreased the most in Angola and the U.A.E., while production in Libya, Nigeria and Iraq increased.

Angola lowered its production level by 54 thousand b/d, while the largest producer Saudi Arabia slightly increased its output capacity by 2 thousand b/d to 9.94 million b/d in May. Libya raised its daily output by 178 thousand b/d, the biggest rise in the cartel for May.

'This year, demand for OPEC crude is projected at 32 mb/d, around 0.3 mb/d higher than the previous year,' OPEC said.

In 2017, global oil demand is projected to rise by 1.27 million b/d to around 96.38 million b/d, according to the organization.

Non-OPEC oil supply is projected to rise by 840 thousand b/d to average 58.14 mb/d in 2017.
