Germany rejects Greece's war reparations demand

- 'Issue of compensation closed politically, legally,' says German Foreign Ministry

Germany on Wednesday rejected a demand by Greece for reparations in the World Wars.

'The issue of compensation is closed politically and legally,' said German Foreign Ministry spokesman Rainer Breul at a news conference in Berlin.

Germany's attitude has not changed on the issue, he said, mentioning yesterday's note from Greece demanding reparations.

Since 2015, various Greek politicians have claimed that Germany owed Greece about €280 billion in World War II reparations.

The German government has repeatedly argued that the WWII reparation issue was resolved under previous international agreements.
