Anadolu Agency kickstarts energy journalism training

- Training is in Arabic but when required simultaneous translation from Turkish to Arabic is available

Anadolu Agency's Energy Journalism Training program started on Monday in collaboration with the Turkish International Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and Anadolu Agency's News Academy.

A group of 24 trainees from eight countries -- Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Somalia, Sudan and Tunisia -- are attending the program, which will be given in Arabic but simultaneous translation from Turkish to Arabic is available as and when required.

'Anadolu Agency provides training periodically in different fields to journalists from around the world. This training program is important in creating a common perspective in energy and we hope the journalists who receive training from Anadolu Agency will gain valuable experience, ' News Academy’s Deputy Coordinator Hayri Cetinkus said at the start of the training program.

Cetinkus noted that Turkey, with its geopolitical location central to the region's energy sources, is a magnet for development in the energy sector, and this is now reflected in the burgeoning energy journalism field.

Deputy Editor at the Energy News Editorship at Anadolu Agency, Baris Saglam, noted that energy is a very important field for Turkey, which provides a bridge between the energy rich and energy poor countries in the region.

He hailed the part that Anadolu Agency plays in promoting Turkey's energy sector, through its Energy News Editorship and Energy Terminal webpage, which publishes and shares both Turkish domestic and international energy news stories.

'For almost 4.5 years, the Energy Terminal has attracted visitors from around the world,' he said.

'Turkey has one of the fastest growing economies in the world and is therefore developing policies to become an energy hub in the region with projects like the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline Project (TANAP) and the Turkstream natural gas project,' he underlined.

- The training

Representatives from Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) and Turkiye Petrolleri (TP), an academic from Turkey's Middle East Technical University (METU), an expert from TurkStream, and Anadolu Agency’s Energy news editors will deliver training in accordance with the agency's vision of educating and supporting qualified field correspondents.

Carried out by Anadolu Agency's News Academy, the course is unique as it offers an 11-day program covering both theoretical and practical training.

The program will address several subjects -- including reporting techniques, energy policies, energy law, energy security, and the global natural gas and oil market.

Successful participants will be awarded internationally recognized certificates at the end of their training.

The program will conclude on Aug. 10.
