UAE gives loan for electricity of Yemen's port city of Aden

- Yemen will take out $47 million loan from UAE to finance city of Aden's electricity

Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi ratified an agreement to grant a loan of $47 million from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to subsidize electricity for Yemen's port city of Aden, according to Yemen News Agency (SABA).

UAE will give the loan to Yemen to finance Aden's electricity under the agreement signed between the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the Ministry of Electricity and Energy of Yemen.

The loan will be used to buy components for electric and gas distribution networks and for the rental of a generator for six months.

Yemen's civilians have suffered due to increasing electricity black-outs caused by a dilapidation in the country's power networks, which in turn led to countrywide demonstrations.

Electricity was finally restored to some parts of Yemen’s western Al-Hudaydah province last Friday after nearly a one-year hiatus.
