Türkiye's electricity production increased by around 3.3% in December 2023 compared to the same month in 2022, the latest data from the country's energy watchdog showed on Wednesday.
Total electricity production rose to around 26.90 million megawatt-hours (MWh) in December 2023, Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) announced in its electricity market report for December 2023.
The country produced electricity from several sources: 25.3% from hydroelectricity, 23.7% from imported coal, 16.3% from natural gas, 13.4% from lignite and 11.4% from wind.
Geothermal, biomass, hard coal, solar power, asphaltite, and fuel oil generated the remaining share.
Electricity consumption in December 2023 also increased to around 21.19 million MWh, marking a 4.6% rise compared to the same month the previous year.
Installed electricity capacity rose by around 1.2% to 96,308 megawatts in December 2023, relative to December 2022.
Natural gas power plants comprised 26.2% of electricity installed capacity, while hydropower and wind plants accounted for 24.6% and 12.2%, respectively.
Lignite, imported coal, hydropower, biomass, geothermal, solar power, hard coal, asphaltite, fuel oil, naphtha, LNG and diesel also contributed to the installed capacity.
