Turkiye's electricity consumption increased year on year by 12.40% in 2021, according to data from Turkiye's Electricity Transmission Corporation.

Turkiye produced 328.63 gigawatt-hours of electricity in 2021 - a production increase of 12.71%, up from 291.55 gigawatt-hours in 2020.
Turkiye's electricity imports from neighboring countries increased by 23.35%, reaching 2.33 billion kilowatt-hours compared to 1.89 billion kilowatt-hours in 2020.
In addition, the country's electricity exports to neighboring countries increased by 68.56% to 4.19 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. Electricity exports in 2020 amounted to 2.48 billion kilowatt-hours.
According to official figures, the installed capacity of the country reached 99.82 gigawatts by the end of 2021.
Korkut Ozturkmen, Aksa Energy's deputy chairman said following the demand decrease in the first half of 2020, a recovery started in the third quarter of the year and continued into 2021.
He said that new investments are needed to close the deficit of power from hydroelectric power plants that cannot operate due to drought. However, he added that as many investors have reservations due to the economic uncertainties and imbalances in the energy market around the world, new price models are required to ensure price stability at a level that will guarantee the investments of companies in the new period.
'We are of the opinion that the increase in installed power, which has made great leaps in recent years due to market risks related to the increase in installed power, price imbalances and insufficient incentives, will be more limited in the upcoming period. However, we foresee that electricity imports and exports will continue to increase,' he said.
