Turkish consumers face 10% rise in electricity and gas

- Turkish consumers paid nearly 10 percent more per unit for electricity and natural gas in first half of 2015

Consumers in Turkey paid over 10 percent more for a kilowatt hour of electricity in the first half of 2015 compared to the same period last year, according to Turkish Statistical Institute's official data released Wednesday.

Households in Turkey paid 0.39 lira on average for a kilowatt hour of electricity in the first half of 2015 compared to 0.35 lira on average per kilowatt hour in the first six months of 2014.

Industrial consumers had to pay 5 percent more with 0.24 lira on average for a kilowatt hour in the first half of 2015, compared to the price for the first six months of 2014.

Meanwhile, natural gas prices for consumers experienced more than a 10 percent increase in the first half of 2015. For households, consumers paid nearly 1.15 lira for a cubic meter in the first half of 2015 compared to around 1.04 lira on average per cubic meter for the same period last year.  

For industrial usage, consumers paid 0.99 lira on average per unit of natural gas in the first six months of this year compared to the average 0.89 lira for the same period last year.

Turkey's inflation rate in the first half of 2015 was 4.76 on average, according to figures from the institute.
