Turkey's electricity production decreased by 1.54% in August compared to the same month last year, according to the latest data revealed by the country's energy watchdog.
Total production decreased to approximately 26.513 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), from 26.928 million kWh in August 2018, Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) announced in its electricity market report for August.
Turkey produced its electricity from several resources -- 22% from hydropower plants, 21.7% from import coal, and 20.2% from natural gas. Lignite, wind, hydropower, geothermal, hard coal, biomass, fuel oil, solar generated the remaining share.
Consumption in the industrial sector saw the biggest share at 36.3%, followed by the commercial sector with 30.6%. Residential consumption came third with 24.8% while agricultural irrigation and street lighting accounted for the remainder.
Turkey's installed electricity capacity was up 2.3% in August on a yearly basis. Natural gas power plants comprised 30.9%, while 24.4% came from hydropower plants, and 12% from lignite power plants.
Hard coal, hydro, wind, geothermal, fuel oil, biomass and solar power also contributed to Turkey's installed capacity.
