Turkey's electricity production decreased by 3.18% in June 2020 compared to the same month last year, according to the latest data reported by the country's energy watchdog.
Total electricity production was down to approximately 22,447 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), from 23,183 million kWh in June 2019, Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) announced in its electricity market report for June.
Turkey produced its electricity from several sources; 29.94% from hydropower, 24.11% from import coal, 16.33% from lignite and 16.17% from natural gas. Wind, geothermal, biomass, hard coal, asphaltite, solar power and fuel oil generated the remaining share.
Consumption in the industrial sector saw the biggest share at 43.6%, followed by the residential sector at 24.9%. Commercial consumption ranked third with 23.5%, while street lighting and agricultural irrigation accounted for the remainder.
Turkey's installed electricity capacity was up 1.2% in June 2020 from the same period of 2019. Natural gas power plants comprised 29.93%, while 24.84% came from hydropower plants and 11.79% from lignite power plants.
Imported coal, hydro, wind, geothermal, biomass, hard coal, asphaltite, fuel oil and solar power also contributed to Turkey's installed capacity.
