The total number of licenses granted in Turkey for its electricity, oil and gas industries increased in 2014, the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) report show.
According to data compiled by Anadolu Agency from EMRA's 2014 activity report, a total of 2,565 licenses were granted last year in the electricity, oil and natural gas markets.
Electricity sector was granted the highest number of licenses with 449. There were also 356 preliminary licenses and 278 auto-producer licenses granted for electricity production.
The total capacity of licenses in the electricity industry was 15,531 megawatts (MW), while 8,226 MW of that was from natural gas sources, 2,807 MW was from dams and 2,692 MW was from domestic coal sources. Meanwhile, the production capacity of licenses that were canceled was 497 MW.
- Oil and natural gas sector were granted 383 licenses
In 2014, 340 licenses were granted for the oil sector, while 43 were for natural gas industry. Licenses for the oil sector increased in 2014, compared to the previous year, while Turkish dealerships acquired the most number of licenses with 271.
In the natural gas industry, the total number of licenses decreased in 2014, compared to 2013. However, licenses granted for compressed natural gas (CNG) rose to 27 last year, from 20 the year before.
- Electricity licenses rose 44 times in last decade
The total number of licenses granted for the electricity industry jumped 44 times between 2005 and 2014.
The number of licenses that were granted in the last ten years for the oil sector, which are still in effect today, totaled 13,219. 12,556 of those licenses were for dealerships.
In addition, the number of licenses granted for the natural gas sector, which are still in effect at the moment, reached 270 in the last 10 years.
The licenses granted by EMRA were for distribution, storage, importing, exporting, transmission, CNG and wholesales.
