Turkey's electricity consumption increased by 3.17% in January compared to the same month of 2019, according to data released by Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Ministry.
The country's power consumption reached 26.17 billion kilowatt-hours last month while electricity production also increased by 3.12% to 26.27 gigawatt-hours compared to January 2019.
Out of January's total production, 27.99% was generated by natural gas power plants as 20.81% was derived from hydro plants and 23.84% from imported coal.
The share of local coal plants in electricity generation was 13.54%. Wind plants generated 9.04% and the remaining 4.78% came from geothermal, fuel oil and biogas plants.
Last month, Turkey's electricity imports from neighboring countries decreased by 11.05% to 126.83 million kilowatt-hours compared to 142.59 million kilowatt-hours in January 2019.
Exports decreased by 9.72% to 227.46 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.
Turkey's total installed power capacity reached 91.27 gigawatts by the end of December 2019, according to official figures.
