Turkey's daily power consumption up 16.9% on Jan. 1

- Electricity exports amount to 12,784 megawatt-hours and imports total 15,998 megawatt-hours

Turkey's daily electricity consumption increased by 16.9% on Saturday compared to the previous day, totaling 860,797 megawatt-hours, according to official figures of Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) on Sunday.

Hourly power consumption peaked at 36,523 megawatt-hours at 19.00 local time (1600GMT), data from TEIAS showed. The country's electricity usage dropped to the lowest level of 26,199 megawatt-hours at 06.00 local time (0300GMT).

Electricity production amounted to 748,887 megawatt-hours on Saturday, marking a 15.4% decrease compared to Friday.

Turkey's electricity production from natural gas plants constituted 28.4% of total electricity consumption, imported coal plants contributed 23.6% while lignite plants comprised 18.2%.

On Saturday, Turkey's electricity exports amounted to 12,784 megawatt-hours and imports totaled 15,998 megawatt-hours.
