Turkey takes new measures for energy efficiency

- Turkey takes new measures to increase energy efficiency in household appliances

Turkey took new measures to increase energy efficiency in households with new regulations from the ministry of science, industry and technology.

According to the new regulation, labels showing energy efficiency classification will become mandatory for vacuum cleaners and ovens and will be classified on a scale from A to G in accordance with EU standards.

The vacuum cleaners in Turkey will not consume more than 62 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and ovens that are below a “C” category in energy efficiency will not be sold after Jul. 1 2015.

“A” category - the highest energy efficiency classification, will be obligatory for ovens after 20 Feb. 2019.

Turkey aims to reduce its energy import bill and its budget deficit by taking measures to ensure energy efficiency in household appliances. In addition, such environmentally-friendly products will cut emissions.

Efficiency rules for washing machines, dishwashers and fridges are already in place in Turkey. According to the 2015-2019 Energy Strategic Plan, which was announced in December, raising electricity saving awareness among the public will have a crucial role in widely extending Turkey’s energy efficiency policy.

The new regulations will take effect after July and September this year to give a transition period for the producers.
