Nissan and EDF partner to accelerate EV adoption

- Nissan to sell vehicle to grid compatible electric vehicles and EDF to undertake vehicle to grid charging solutions

Japanese car manufacturer Nissan and French EDF Group have agreed to help accelerate the delivery of electric mobility, particularly through the smart charging of electric vehicles (EVs) in the U.K., France, Belgium and Italy, EDF announced on Wednesday.

The companies' cooperation agreement focuses mainly on developing efficient and cost-effective smart charging solutions by bringing together technologies developed and mastered by both, EDF said.

As part of the agreement, Nissan will be responsible for the sale of vehicle to grid compatible EVs, and EDF Group will oversee vehicle to grid charging solutions and related services.

Under the vehicle to grid system, the EV will be considered not only a means of transportation, but will serve as a mobile power plant generating electrical energy to the power grid when necessary.

The customer can sell back the electricity stored in the EV to the grid, generating additional revenue to offset vehicle ownership costs, EDF said.
