Mustafa Yilmaz remains at helm of Türkiye’s energy regulatory body

‘Energy serves as backbone of our economy and Türkiye has great targets in energy,’ Yilmaz tells Anadolu following his 4th appointment

Mustafa Yilmaz is reappointed as the Head of the Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) for the fourth time, the official gazette announced on Tuesday.

Following his appointment, Yilmaz told Anadolu that Türkiye has reached a pivotal point in energy, thanks to joint efforts, along with the industry.

'However, we still have a lot of work to do,” Yilmaz added.

Noting that Türkiye will resolutely move forward on the path towards becoming an energy trade center, he said: 'We will continue to fulfill our responsibility to benefit from our domestic and renewable resources to the maximum extent.”

While taking the necessary steps to provide the highest quality energy service to all consumers, he said, Türkiye will continue its efforts with a visionary perspective towards electric vehicles and alternative energy sources.

Yılmaz was born in 1966 in Türkiye’s southeastern Gaziantep province. He studied law at Istanbul University between 1984-1988. Following his graduation, Yılmaz practiced law in Istanbul and later specialized in the energy sector between 1993 and 2004.

He was appointed as an EPDK board member in 2004, and he was later appointed as the second chairman of the regulatory body in 2010.

In 2014, Yilmaz was appointed as the head of EPDK and following the end of his term of office, he was appointed for the second time in 2016.

After his 4-year term of office expired, Yılmaz was appointed as the head of EPDK for the third time in 2020.
