Iran has resumed electricity supply to Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said on Saturday.
The country resumed exports of electricity after solving electricity disconnection problems, Ardakanian said at a press conference in Parand Power Plant according to Iran’s official IRNA news agency.
He noted that Iran is fulfilling its commitments for energy trade with neighboring countries.
Iraq started paying the outstanding amount of its unpaid bills, Ardakanian said, adding that in addition to exports, Iran is now able to import electricity from Turkmenistan and Armenia.
On Tuesday, the Iran Power Generation Transmission and Distribution Management Company (Tavanir) spokesman Mahmoudreza Haghifam said that currently Iran exports 200 to 250 megawatts of electricity to Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He noted that the state-run company will increase its exports within the framework of the agreements reached with these countries.
According to Iran's Tasnim news agency, the company had stopped supplying electricity to some neighboring countries, including Iraq, because of unpaid bills and a rise in domestic consumption in the summer.
