Eleanor causes power cuts in 200K French households

- 2,000 technicians are mobilized to restore electricity, says distribution company

Winter storm Eleanor hit landfall in France resulting in electricity cuts in approximately 200,000 households, according to French electricity grid company Enedis on Wednesday.

Enedis manages the public electricity distribution network for 95 percent of continental France.

The storm first hit Normandy affecting 50,000 customers in the region. The storm then lashed Picardie, North Calais, Lorraine, Ile de France and the Champagne-Ardenne regions causing electricity cuts.

'Two thousand technicians are mobilized to restore electricity to our customers, Enedis announced in a written statement.

'The situation remains very changeable because the storm continues to blow violently and is moving to other regions,' the company explained.
