A group of 30 foreign journalists is taking part in Anadolu Agency's (AA) online Energy Journalism Training Program starting Monday, Sept. 7.
The AA's News Academy in collaboration with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), as part of its journalist-training program, organized the three-day-long program that will run via videoconference until Sep. 9.
Anadolu Agency's Energy Desk editors and journalists will train the participants who hail from Azerbaijan, Algeria, The Gambia, Georgia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Mozambique and Ukraine.
The online course ultimately aims to help correspondents enrich their knowledge in the energy field to focus on this sector in their journalism careers.
The participants will receive training in subjects ranging from energy news writing and reporting techniques, international energy institutions and energy economics, energy diplomacy and global energy policies.
The online training program started with the introductions of Busra Turk, an assistant specialist at AA News Academy, who provided the participants with information on the AA and TIKA, followed by speeches of the director of the AA News Academy, Cihangir Isbilir, and TIKA's Training and Project Coordinator, Mustafa Hasim Polat.
Deputy Editor of Anadolu Agency's Energy Desk, Baris Saglam, briefed participants on the foundations of journalism, the energy sector and its connection to the economy, and news writing in areas covering oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear, electricity and renewables.
In his opening speech, Isbilir stressed the importance of developing and supporting regional media with a focus on non-biased reporting, while Polat explained the vital role that the energy sector plays globally.
