BEIJING
Volkswagen AG is recalling over half a million cars due to defects in their rear axles, China's quality regulator said on Friday.
The decision came after an inspection into the company, prompted two months ago by complaints of defective rear axles in some of their sedan cars, according to a statement from China's quality regulator -- the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
Starting from February 2, Volkswagen and its partner in China, the FAW Group, will recall 563,605 Volkswagen Sagitar sedans produced between May 2011 and May 2014.
17,485 Volkswagen Beetle cars, produced between April 2012 and July 2013, are beset with similar problems and will also be recalled for repairs.
