Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts day up

BIST 100 index goes up 0.44 percent , rising over 400 points from previous close

ANKARA

Turkey's stock exchange rose 0.44 percent, or 411.26 points, to open at 94,585.23 points on Tuesday.

The Borsa Istanbul banking and holding sector indices gained 0.77 percent and 0.36 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices, the transportation sector index posted the best performance, up 0.81 percent, while the information technology trade sector index saw the biggest decline, down 0.58 percent.

On Monday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 94,173.97, down 1.50 percent, or 1,436.51 points, with a trade volume of 7 billion Turkish liras (nearly $1.35 billion).

One U.S. dollar traded for 5.1960 Turkish liras as of 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT) Tuesday, up slightly from 5.1930 at Monday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate was 6.0190 by market close, versus 5.9990 at the previous close, and one British pound traded for 6.7400 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 6.7140 at Monday's close.

The price of Brent oil rose to $74.17 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Tuesday, compared to $74.28 on Monday.
