ANKARA
Petrobras' oil and natural gas production rose by 2.2 percent in August compared to last month, the Brazilian state-owned energy giant has said.
Petrobras announced on Saturday that its total global oil and gas production reached 2.75 million barrels of oil per day in August, from 2.69 million in July.
The boost in production was driven primarily by 11 offshore production wells which started up in August in Santos and Cantos Basins, Brazil’s most efficient production areas of hydrocarbons, the company stated.
Petrobas said in a press release that 47 new wells had gone into operation to date in 2014.
In Brazil, the total oil and natural gas production from Petrobras rose by 3.9 percent from 2,634 barrels of oil a day in July to 2,736 in August.
Petrobras’ oil production in Brazil also rose by 2.7 percent from 2,049 barrels per day to 2,105, and natural gas production operated by Petrobras reached 80 million cubic meters per day, a rise by 4.7 percent from July.
While domestic production increased, Petrobras’ production abroad fell by 5.3 percent - a decrease of 11,700 barrels of oil per day.
The company said the fall resulted in a lower demand for liquefied natural gas exports from Peru, which caused a decrease in gas production.
Outside of Brazil, Petrobras produces oil and gas in Bolivia, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, the U.S.A and Nigeria.
