ANKARA
"Seyahatname" (Book of Travels) written by an Ottoman traveler Evliya Celebi has been included into UNESCO Memory of the World Register on Friday.
The "Seyahatname" was approved to be included in the Memory of the World Register during the International Consultative Committee for the Memory of the World programme meeting in Gwangju, South Korea.
Ottoman traveler’s Seyahatname is considered as the longest travel book and it forms integrity, experts say.
Celebi began his travels in Istanbul, taking notes on buildings, markets, customs and culture; in 1640, he started his first journey outside the city. His collection of notes from all of his travels formed a ten-volume work called the "Seyahatname" (Book of Travels).
