ANKARA
Winners of Anadolu Agency’s Photos of the Year contest was announced on Saturday.
Marking the essential events of 2021, the contest of Turkiye's global news outlet featured 68 images from various parts of the world in three categories – news, life, and sports.
A total of 312,136 people joined the voting throughout December.
Aytac Unal’s "Turkish Police Department's 'ATAK' helicopters" won the first place in the news category.
Unal's photograph depicts Turkiye's first female attack helicopter pilot Ozge Karabulut on duty.
Meanwhile "Family welcomes mine detection dog of deceased veterinary sergeant" by Izzet Mazi became first in the life category.
The photo taken by Mazi shows Atmaca (hawk in English), a mine detection dog that served veterinary sergeant Ahmet Akdal, who died in an operation, while it is looking at their photo at Akdal's parents' house.
"Champion Mete Gazoz" by Ali Atmaca took the first place in the sports category.
Atmaca's photo pictures Turkish national archer Mete Gazoz as posing after winning a competition in the men’s individual classical bow category at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
